On Thursday, the 4th of February 2010. g. Center for Human Rights in collaboration with the Human Rights House Network has organized a public debate on the recommendations of the UN Committee for the year 2009 and a workshop on a new UN mechanism for the protection of human rights: UPR (Universal Periodic Review). During the public debate, presented were the latest developments within the framework of the UN system for the protection of human rights, including recommendations by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and recommendations of the Human Rights Committee (HR Committee) issued in Croatia in 2009. The workshop for civil society organizations (CSOs) and national human rights institutions (NHRI) presented the methodology of writing a report for the new mechanism of UN: UPR (Universal Periodic Review). The main presenter at the public debate and the workshop was Florian Irminger, Head of the Human Rights House Foundation in Geneva. The human rights situation in Croatia will be considered this year under the UPR-a, on the 9th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HR Council), on the 29th of November 2010. The deadline for submission of written statements of NGOs and NHRI's is on 19 April 2010. The present civil society organizations formed an informal coalition of NGOs for the UPR report, which will be attended by all interested NGOs, and the process of drafting a joint statement to the UN will be coordinated by Sanja Sarnavka on the behalf of the Houses of Human Rights. |
