Regional presentation - Evaluation of the Croatian Legal Aid

Human Rights Center is organizing a regional presentation of the expert evaluation report entitled: “Implementation of the Free Legal Aid Act in Croatia with recommendations for the improvement“.

The regional conference entitled: Access to Justice: A year of implementation of the Law on Free Legal Aid that was held on July 26, 2010 was the starting point of searching the ways to make the existing free legal aid system more effective in providing equal access to justice for all Croatian citizens. Accordingly, the Human Rights Center coordinated the conducting of an independant expert evaluation on the implementation of free legal aid system in Croatia, which was supported by the Embassy of Finland, the UNHCR Croatia and the East East Partnership Beyond Borders Program of the Open Society Institute.

An expert report will be presented by the members of the expert team: professor Jon Johnsen from the University of Oslo, professor Georg Stawa, from the Ministry of Justice in Austria and professor Alan Uzelac, from the Law Faculty at the University of Zagreb. Also, main providers of the free legal aid in Croatia (civil society organizations, public administration offices and Croatian Bar Chamber members) will take part in discussions, which will end up with conclusions.

Public presentation will take place at December 3, 2010 at the premises of the Human Rights Center, Kralja Držislava 6, Zagreb.

The evaluation draft can be downloaded in attachement.
